I have been running unstudded Hak 1s for the past three winters and have been pleased with them. BUT, don't get these tires. The technology is outdated and they were designed to be used with studs. The Hak 2s are going to be available this year and they use both advanced silca, siping and eco-studs (see pic). If you drive in really bad conditions and/or live in a snow belt, these ARE the tires to get. period. The main downside is that their dry performance is not great and they top out at 118mph (T-rated).
The NRWs are a performance oriented winter tire - H-rated. They can also be run year-round and will probably outperform anty all-season tire in the dry. They will perform comparably in the snow to the M2s and Pilot Alpins. This tire is a good choice if you live in an area that sees occassional snow.
The M2s get good reviews but they are several years old and have already been replaced in Europe by the Dunlop M3s. The M3s have improved compounds and siping but are not available in the US this year :-(
The Pilot Alpins (Michelin) get excellent reviews as a high performance winter tire. I would look into these as well.

Nokian may be the best. I like my Dunlop M2 over Blizzaks. follow the link --->
I've been posting this pic often lately... I guess it's getting to be that time of the year again.
