spare ECU. Does the dealer actualy check the ECU for a chip when going in for routine maintenence or even when coming in for a blown turbo/clutch?
Thanks,

Mike

Default Because it'll be obvious that you're chipped if they take it out for a drive

All of the popular chips are invisible to the VAG tool, but the dealer's "butt dyno" will tell them that it's not stock... which is why I got the EMCS... tap-tap back to stock...

Default uh, they're not invisible to something...i once was given a piece of readout slip that said apr 1.0

bar at the top. the dealership didnt care (or, at least they didnt say anything), but it was clearly identifiable by whatever it was that they used to determine why i had an exhaust fumes leak....i was surprised, especially cuz apr says they are undetectable...oh well....i always change the ecu anyway....

Default That must have been an old version of a non-DBW A4 chip...

None of our newer chips have any labels of any kind...

Default I will NOT take that chance...

any time I go anywhere near Leith in Raleigh, I will swap the stock ECU back in... ;-)
If they enjoy the ride with my stock ECU and the VM2 exhaust, more power to them, as long as I don't end up like Jyoteen<p>David

Default Th APR /EMCS show no codes ...

I checked after changing between regular status and stage one. I show no DTC's
You can change even on the run although they don't recommend it. It takes about 15 seconds to change venue. You can also lock out so it can not be tampered with.
I love it -- much better than the single chip I had previously -- that had to be changed to get an oil change.<p><img src="http://members3.clubphoto.com/ron257065/Rons/photo1.jpg">

Default ALWAYS put your stock ecu in. The dealer knows the coding of your original ecu.

Unless you have your stock box modified and you have no choice. This is how I got nabbed. The ecu has a serial number. Each ecu has a code that the dealer makes note of. They knew my car was chipped before they drove it. They do look for signs of ecu tampering as well. They know how tempting it is. And with all the stuff you read on the forum about blown turbos, and trannys, you gotta think they might check the inside
the ecu , and find another chip in it.
