ARRRGGGH! Wheel dilemma continues...
So I managed to jack up an AVUS rim a while ago, swapped it with the spare and found out it too was bent, only this time by the previous owner. Obviously, two bad wheels means time to upgrade! However, I've been looking for an 18" wheel package which I can afford (with tires, roughly $1600) and which fit a lowered car, stock brakes. I thought I had it figured out (ACE Zeus) which I like because, being new, they are somewhat unique yet.
But the bad news- working with Online Tire, I was told they would fit. I even called ACE direct (at the number supplied by Online Tire) to confirm. When Online Tire turned out to be out of stock, I called Wheelmax, and their guy says nope, it won't clear the brakes. "But wait," I quickly retort, "others have said they will. Where does your info come from?" And the reply: "My manager- his wife has one."
So my question to y'all- who is correct? I really don't want to mount wheels which won't fit. And secondly, anyone have recommendations for a good looking, cheap wheel / tire combo?
TIA

I'd be willing to bet Wheelmax is correct.
Sometimes I wonder how some of these places determine fitment. Frankly, I think it's as easy as trial and error. Worse case, I'll even bet some just ship the wheels to the customer, and if the customer screams, then they know they don't fit (another form of trial and error). Anyway, long story short...I would take the word of the wheelmax guy over the others.

Damn. That's the way I was leaning- one no beats a lot of questionable yes'. Though the ACE web...
site does have a "picture this wheel on your car" option which lists the Zeus as a fit. Of course, it also shows the Monaco, which is 18X7.5 vs the Zeus' 18 x 8.5, as fitting, and some AWers question that without spacers... in other words, jury is still out.
