Default Bizarre issue on track-day, could be a SPEC clutch issue, please read ...

Morning sessions went well.
Was a new track for me, short and technical, took a while to learn - very hard on brakes and tires.

On the second session in the afternoon, flat out in 3rd coming into wide hair-pin, hard braking, downshift into 2nd, blip throttle, release clutch, car dies - but it is still on and in 2nd gear with clutch out. I put car into neutral by pressing clutch down and selecting neutral. If I then select any gear the car is fine??? Note, when the car dies, I can hear something that sounds probably metallic that makes a "clunk / dropping" sound.

I could repeat this if I was very aggressive coming out of the corner - i.e. attempting aggressive acceleration as I was releasing the clutch into 2nd gear.

If I babied the corner - no problem.

Note, the clutch was not slipping, car just totally bogs.
Once I put car into neutral and then choose 2nd or 3rd, car is ok?

Somebody, anybody, what could possible explain this?

Something was clearly temporarily breaking but could magically fix itself?

How can the car appear to be in gear (stick shift was in 2nd) with clutch out and be dead but by merely placing clutch in again selecting neutral and then placing the car in any gear (car would have been rolling but not under any material load) magically fix the problem???????????????????????

HELP

Default I'm not sure what you are saying but my Spec 2 went during a track session.

It was just slipping and then overheated and could not get in gear at all. After a cool down it was alright. I got rid of it. Do a search. Failures all over.

Default Note quite the same as what you describe, but the S4 can pop out of gear under hard braking...

...several of us had experienced it in our S4's under braking while coming into the carousel in third gear at Texas World Speedway.

Default There is a clutch position sensor that rapidly closes the throttle

when you push the clutch in. If it is stuck in one positin, the revs never come down when you push the clutch in, even off the gas.

Perhaps if it is in the other position, it kills the throttle and never turns it back on

Default further update: I believe that car actually stalled when I released the clutch and applied gas ...

and because there was forward motion and the car was in 2nd gear it may have re-started old school (i.e. roll it down a hill and pop it into gear) - I believe I remember seeing lights on the dash light-up.

As I understand how to drive a manual car and have tracked on many occassions, "not knowing how to drive is not the answer I'm looking for".

The car just shut off cold turkey during "blip throttle, release clutch, apply gas in an aggressive corner exit"

anybody

Default Hmm, reseat your chip.

You may need a new socket if you've had to swap them more than 10 cycles.

I had a few chips that were defective when tested on a eeprom writer that would actually stall the car for a brief moment, with CE and EPC lights on, then the car would push start itself and be fine, no codes were thrown either.
