Clutch problems, any advice/input is appreciated!!
I was driving home going about 40 mph when I without thinking put it into 1st gear with the clutch still fully disengaged. At that point, I heard a sort of clunk and couldn't put the shifter into any gear. I braked, pulled to the side of the road, turned off the car. Turned back on and could get the car into gear, but the engine would just rev and didn't move the car. Any ideas what might be up?
My friend said something similar happened to her car and it was just the clutch cable and not the entire transmission/clutch that was fvcked. Thoughts?

That's pretty impressive - I can't get my car into 1st unless I'm at almost a complete stop...
I know that there is a lockout on 1st which should prevent you from doing what you did. I'm pretty sure you can force past the lockout if you try hard enough. Maybe you spun 1st gear - try starting the car off in 2nd and see if you get anywhere. If it moves - then your clutch/ clutch cable, etc. is OK. It would then point to something internal to the transmission and specifically to 1st gear.

Yeah, normally it's prevented, but for whatever reason, I was able to get it into 1st...
absent-mindedness ftl.
Haven't tried it in 2nd gear, but needed to move it this morning and reverse does work, though with serious strain, from the sound of it, on the engine/transmission.
