Can someone school me on basic Coolant 101?
I have had a coolant leak and have not had time to go to the dealer to get g12 coolant. So i've been adding water in it until I could go this weekend. So I'm assuming water carries more heat than coolant? I was stuck in traffic yesterday and the coolant shot to about 110 (I had my vag on me at the time) when traffic got gon again it dropped down back to about 93. I have never seen the coolant jump that high before. Is it because I have a mixture of more water than coolant? TIA~!

keeps water from freezing and helps with corrosion...
once you hit traffic and your radiator started to heat soak, the temps went up.
It also resists corrosion. I believe most go with a 50/50 mix, though you can thin G12 down to 35% if you are willing to give up low range temps.
Not sure what about G12 makes it cool the car better than water, but it keeps the water from freezing and keeps corrosion in check.

You want to run about a 50/50 mix of water/coolant, anyway... the idea behind the coolant
is to prevent freezing and boiling.
Is your dealer that far away from you that you can't stop by and pick up a $12 bottle of coolant?

Not really, i work 8-5 and then goto school from 6-10 so no time really and i'm lazy, also
would this explain my temps jumpin up to 110+ during idle? Maybe i just never noticed it before until I had my recent leak.
