Can you replace just 1 EGT probe or should you do two?
I was wondering if I replace just 1 EGT probe that is causing my CEL light & bad idle etc. would it cause a problem with performance with the two banks?
My car has 70 000miles (111KM) and if I can just replace the probe 1 I would do that unless the banks would read different.
If they just go and shut down or does the reading slowly get worse (meaning I would replace 2)?
Usaually I would just replace both for something like this but I just spend $3000 2 weeks ago on my tranny! So I would rather not if it won't effect performance.
Thanks

yea you can just replace 1 if only 1 is failing ... but id assume the other one is also one its way
out since they both deal with the same heat and exhaust gasses for the same amount of time. kind of like changing headlight bulbs ... and "mean time before failures"
FYI, the passenger side is super easy to remove, you do it from the engine bay,
while the drivers side is a PITA!! the easiest way is to get a small wrench, shave it down until it fits where you need it, get the car on a lift and go in from underneath

I just replaced one EGT back in April, because only one was throwing a code.
I didnt see the point in replacing two if only one was throwing a code that it was going bad.
I replaced the bad one and haven't heard a peep from either since. You're fine just replacing one.

You guys have been a great help and
thank you for your input!
Which side is bank 1 (drivers I am guessing)?
Where is the cheapest place to purchase these EGT probes? ( I did a search on this forums and saw a place for $142/ea)
BTW: How do you guys put your photo and cars in a signature on this forums?
Thanks

My drivers side EGT was throwing crazy numbers back to the ECU putting it into limp mode. Had it replaced and the car was back eatin up the tires. So, yes it is ok to only replace the bad EGT. And, the drivers side sensor alone is around 300 bucks.
