Default I live near Sterling, VA if you need a hand or tools.

Got the ol' Rabbit pickup also if you need to haul anything.

Default I must say I am amazed...get a shop to fix it...then sell it (m)

Jim,

IMHO, you are making a big mistake. First, have an audi shop fix the car. I realize the accident is going on your insurance...BUT...that is why you have it. Use it. Second, sell the car and order a 2001...it will NEVER be the same. I don't care who fixes it. Dump it and move on. I am amazed at the amount of time you are spending on it (pictures-plans, etc.). This is coming from someone who had a catastrophic house fire in March. One thing I learned, material things can be replaced...just be glad you were not hurt. Maybe this is the way the Man Upstairs is telling you were a little too attached to that car. It is only a car...sell it and get a new one. You will be much happier in the end.

Default I have the ramp, and I suspect I will need more working room than jack stands will provide.

Default From what I read, you tore the engine\transmission from the car.

If you use the stressed components, with the high torque/HP this car develops, you will probably have to redesign the engine/transmission mounting . Aluminium has low fatigue strength, so any of the mounting points that have been stressed, should be consider unsafe.
You might be able to replace the transmission case. I don't know if welding the tranny case is a viable solution. You might check with some race car builders, as they deal with some crashes, to see what they recommend.

Good luck with it

Default I won't convince everyone, obviously, but I enjoy the bannter, and am amazed at the number of folks

that attribute some god-like powers to Audi dealers and thier technicians. Yea, there are good ones, but there are also bad ones, and they all are working against the clock. I have the luxery of not being pressured, and can do a better job (IMHO) as a result.

Besides, if you saw how little the service dept/parts dept (Is that S4 a "Quattro"? Is it the V6 engine? Oh, you didn't tell me it was the turbo engine!) body shop actually know about the S4, as opposed to the A4, you'd probaby run screaming! AOA's fault, IMHO, but a real problem, nevertheless.
Jim De Arras

Default "tore" is too strong a word, bur yes, that's my major concern with the transmission.

I'll replace it, if needed. Have to get the fractured mounts off, and see if there is any evidence of stress in the transmission housing. That would be serious, I agree. Remember, though, all the mounts are still in one piece, none fractured all the way through, transmission or engine. The car is drivable as is, I have run it around the body shop parking lot a few times already.
Jim De Arras

Default I don't know, I have done some fairly major work on other cars with jack stands

and you can get the car quite high in the air using them, plus they are cheap and quite safe. Either way, just be sure to be safe - if the car falls on you it;s all over.
