do lighter wheels make that much of a difference?
Everyone seems to be talking about the lightweight BBS and Fikse wheels how they weigh very little and improve preformance...etc.
Does shaving 40lbs off of a 3600 lb car make a huge difference?
Thanks.

Rotating mass Vs. Static weight
Even though one particular rim may be 10 lbs lighter than stock, it actually has more of an effect because of the inertia that a spinning mass generates. This also goes for moving suspension parts. The only side effect is probably over bad roads, since the wheel responds quicker to any irregularities, the ride may not be as smooth.

Actually ride is smoother
Actually the ride becomes slightly smoother because the momentum of the heavier wheels aren't translated to the body of the car. Image if the wheels weighed 500lbs...with the suspension compressed and as it rebounds (uncompresses), a higher proportion of the force (actually not "force" but distance) gets sent to the body of the car.
Other benefits include the wheels track better, which is noticable to me. The wheels maintain better contact with the street over ripples, cracks, and other bumps.
Main benefit: No more hernias lifting the wheels, and I have an easire time rolling them. The stocks keep wanting to tip over because of the spokes being on one side of the wheel. With the Fikses, eventhough the spokes are on one side of the wheel, it's so light that you can just shove it and it'll keep rolling :-)
