Default Do you have to remove the cam shaft sprockets when replacing the timing belt?

In my Bentley manual they say the cam sprockets need to be removed, I can't figure out why. They provide this picture:

And this text:
" Pull off both camshaft sprockets with special tool T40001.
- Reinstall both camshaft sprockets with securing plates and tighten hand-tight again.

Note:

The camshaft sprockets should be just tight enough on the camshaft tapers so that they can still be turned but do not move axially."

I don't get why you remove them? And is the special tool necessary?

Special tool: Matra T40001

Default That's a gear-puller. You need to pull the gear for the cam sprockets

So the cams won't go spinning while you're working. Rent a gear puller at Autozone.

Does you know if Autozone rent all the tools for the job? Do they have the cam holder as well?

Default They'll have the gear puller but not the cam bar.

I know Rob over on the A4 boards has one for the 2.8, but I don't know if they 2.8 one is interchangeable with the 2.7T.

I think all the V6 Audis (definitely all the 30v's) use the same cam bar.

Default There's a cam shaft holder that you need
