Default Does the stock alarm function from the car's ECU???.......

The reason i'm asking is b/c i'm having audi program my alarm to lock the doors once the car passes 15 mph, to unlock when the key is taken out of the ignition, and to roll the windows up/down with the remote.
I don't want to lose these functions once I switch ECU's.
My guess is that the alarm functions from a separate unit within the vehicle. Anyone know for sure??

(Also, does anyone know what other functions the stock alarm has?)

TIA

Default just so you know, the stock alarm is a joke

it will provide no protection what so ever from thieves.

Default When I did it on my A4 I needed to have the stock stereo unit in. It relays through it to another..

location. I switched ECUs and still maintained the features added in by the VAG. You wouldn'g happen to have the VAG number would you? I have been wanting to do it to my S4, auto lock, remote windows, that's it.

Default Nope the engine control unit and the central locking are totally seperate computers.

They "talk" via CAN...

Default Explain that to the guy with a 20point IQ stealing a $200 CD player in broad day light

I'm sure that there is always a way around it. The alarm does seem pretty rinky dink to start with, I mainly use it for keyless entry

Default I'd rate the effectiveness of the stock alarm on par with the club

Its the real thieves you have to worry about, not the idiots who would risk going to jail for a damn cd player.

Default i hear that, the old S has a better technology for the good thieves......

Loo Jack. A tracking system that's mounted somewhere under the car. This way I will know exactly when my car crosses the boarder into Mexico
