Default Drag raced tonight for my first time in any car. APR chip in two modes. How'd I do?

First run at Moroso (west of Palm Beach, FL) was in stock mode, and I didn't feel good about my effort: 15.32/95.6 mph. Second, third and fourth runs were with APR chip in its go-fast mode: 14.56/98.1, 14.41/98.9, 14.36/99.25. Only other mods are wheels & tires. And, uh, so you'll go gently, I remind you this was my virgin trip to a dragstrip. I may go again; it was packed (hundreds of entries, several classes) but fun.
So...aside from the fact that I should keep my day job, how'd I do? (See "OK" post below for data on my "best" [ha!] run.)

Default you need to post all the splits to tell...

those times seem slow but WHY they're slow can only be analyzed from the complete slip. Type them or scan them...also were you using 100 octane in 100 octane mode? That's a MUST because you can't advance the timing that much without it and the car will be SLOOOOWWW.

Default Splits are times at each distance, or what? 100 octane was available but I didn't use it.

Again, this being my first time, I didn't think to drain down the tank so I could buy 100 at the track. And (obviously) I don't know what splits are.

Default post the slip exactly as you have it...

in other words:

R/T: .500
60': 2.0
330': 3.6
1/8: 8.6
mph: 80
1000': 14.3
1/4: 14.9
mph: 96

or whatever is on your slip.

Default OK, here's data from slip of my "best" (ha!) time:

R/T: .674
60: 2.296
330: 6.175
1/8: 9.354
MPH: 77.67
1000: 12.067
1/4: 14.363
MPH: 99.25

Default well, most of the problem is...

in your launch. A good beginner 60' time is about 2.0 seconds to 2.1 seconds and a REALLY good 60' time is 1.8 or 1.9 seconds. Lose 1 or 2 tenths there and you can get 3 or 4 tenths by the end. Don't drag race a chipped turbo car without 100 octane though...you are wasting your time because the strip is the sort of place where you have all the ingredients for pre-ignition and your timing will get cut so you'll lose alot of the power the chip is supposed to be giving you.

Default Thanks a bunch! You have inspired me, sir.

I will definitely drain the tank for 100 octane next time, plus work on my launch. (Might help to empty the trunk too, eh?) Maybe I can be more competitive with the likes of the Corvette powered Camaro that beat me with a 13.868 on that last run. By the way -- beginner time again -- what do you mean when you say the strip lends itself to pre-ignition? What IS pre-ignition? (I need a Drag Racing for Dummies book!)

Default You have Tiptronic?

Like Ty Webb said, its the launch. Your speed at the end was nice but your giving away a minimum of .14 in the first 60' which would lower you about .2-.25 at the finish. Again Mr Ty Webb is correct(I hate it when he does that! Be the ball)run 100 octane, and especially when running the race mode of the chip.

Default my chipped tiptronic will own you sir

my tip got 14.1 with MTM + spare + 3/4tank 93 octane. i can probobly get it to 13.8 if i used race fuel, droped the spare, and gave it a better launch.
