Default Drain Plug question... any reason oil will drip from the plug hole even when tight...

Don't want to tighten it too much, maybe needs an
xtra turn?

Default Crush gasket definitely... I know better than to put too much force, that would be a

damn expensive oil change. Damn gasket.

Default Yep - I buy one with the filter every time.

On my Triumph, I had to reuse the crush washer once because an independent service center (never again) sold me two of the wrong sized washers because they "know that one of them is correct." I had oil dripping out for the entire time that I ran that batch of oil. As soon as I changed my oil again and used a new crush washer, the leaking stopped. It's such a small amount of money to not do it.

Default Except that the new ones aren't removable. i.e. the crush ring doesn't come off the bolt.

At least not that I could manage without damaging the threads. I did a search and found that it is now a lifetime part. I haven't seen mine leak so I guess it is ok.

Default There are two different designs of drain plugs. The OEM one on my '02 S4 has the replaceable washer

and there is also a lifetime part that is as Singletrack describes, my dealer sells both types. If you are in a pinch (dealer not open, etc.) you can use a 14mm universal crush gasket from PepBoys or the like, but I haven't been able to find aluminum ones - only copper or nylon. The nylon ones can leak unless you tighten it very tight. I think the aluminum ones run 40 cents ea. at my dealer. Ghetto way is to turn the used one over and re-use; but that is a sure way to get some leakage!
