Engine bucking
Hello all. This is my first post on this forum. I purchased a '00 S4 a few months ago and have finally encountered a problem with the car. It cuts in and out and bucks when first applying the throttle in gear. At first, it seemed to only do it once and a while. Now it is getting worse. Once the turbos spool up, the car runs fine. It only seems to do it when I first apply the throttle. The car cuts in and out quite hard and sometimes stalls. At a stand still, engine runs fine, no hesitation. Car has almost 72k. I changed the timing belt at 70k. I know the previous owner already changed the MAF sensor. I pulled the codes, nothing is stored. How can the car run so poorly and no codes are stored? What could be the problem? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Re: manual trans? Try letting out the clutch at ~200rpm higher when starting from 1st.
Yes, it is a 6spd. The problem isn't the RPM's. It doesn't stall because of my lack of clutch driving skills, the engine is cutting out on me. The car is completely stock, by the way.

Re: I cant remember if I was throwing EGT codes before it went out but you might look there.
How did you car act when your EGT went bad? Did the car buck hard when first applying the gas pedal?

Had a similar problem at part throttle, maybe not as bad as yours but
I changed out the front 02 sensors and that solved the problem. Happened when the car was cold and applying part throttle. I never had any codes and the car actually runs much better.
You could easily check MAF by logging block 003 in vag-com and seeing what your idle maf numbers look like, should be somewhere @ 5-6 gps, less than that and you could have a dying maf, without throwing a code.
