Exhaust: Single 3" vs. Dual 2.25": Is there that much difference?
I've seen a lot of the data from when VM1 & VM2 were first produced (ie size volume, EGT theories, etc) since I was around back then. For those of you who have had experience with these different setups (whether in testing/development or track use), does it make that much of a difference. Is the added flow from the dual worth it for the extra horses you *may* gain from a dual setup?

Actually
the flow characteristics of a larger single is better than a dual out. The dual out is nice for some backpressure when initially accelarating. The single is better for high end accelaration.

I have
no concrete evidence to support this. Only drag racing experiences with exhausts on prior vehicles. I have tested several exhausts on my prior vehicle and found that there is some difference with the dual and single out exhausts.
This is just my speculation from what I have raced with in the past.

I'm no expert either, but this is what I'm thinking...
With a single exhaust, you'll get more suction from the exhaust gases since the pipe is more accurately sized for the flow. You also don't have the problem of the two pipes being at a slightly different pressure... Just my thoughts... anyone care to comment?

Its simple physics. Air flows faster in the middle of the pipe...
You get a lot of turbulence at the outer edges of the pipe. At a given cross sectional size, you'll get less backpressure with one pipe then two... less backpressure means less torque and more HP.
