Front of engine noise

Front of engine noise
I noticed today that my engine is making a terrible noise. I first thought it was the driver side turbo but further investigation makes me believe it is the water pump. Has anyone had a water pump go bad or make really bad noise? When I put a screwdriver to it and my ear to the screwdriver I hear a whirling sound.

I had the waterpump changed under warranty
somewhere in the 30-40K range. Same symptom,
lots of distressing noise.

Also STFA for a lot of info on this. I couldn't find that much at first, but found info in time.
Get it done asap as you could potentially f your engine bad. Also get your timing belt done at the same time.
