Going Back to Thepooj guys problem (diesel engine noise), I have the same issue
My engine sounds just like that, ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYEmhPLpi3o )it bothers me so much, mine is a little less noisier but the same kind of noise. I got the car about 10k ago and when i bought it the previous owner said he had just had the Timing Belt done. I had an audi mechanic look at it and he said next time we get into the engine he will check it out but he is pretty sure it is some kind of tensioner, and he said its fine for now.
Guys, how harmfull is it? Should I get it fixed right away?
Thepooj what is your progress? Have you had anything done?

The "diesel" sound is from the timing belt not being properly tensioned during the service.
I originally had my timing belt service done by an Audi tech, and he didnt tension the belt properly, which gave me that diesel sound.
I redid the service myself, the correct way... and it sounds great now. To properly tension the belt, the cam sprockets need to be popped out, and load needs to be applied to the tensioner. STFA for more info.
