Got a chance to practice launching today...poor Prelude taught a lesson
So I'm heading home with my girlfriend from dinner. This guy in a Prelude was egging me on, so I decide to teach the guy a lesson. A two-lane left turn comes up, and I get the inside lane. We go through the turn at a pretty good speed and I accelerate ahead of him. My right turn to go home is coming up, so I switch over 2 lanes.
The guy starts following me, so I ask my girlfriend if it's okay to have some fun with the guy. She says okay, so I lead the guy to another left turn light. The guy ends up going straight...drives a quarter mile down the road and makes a u-turn back to the intersection I was at. He waits until I make a left, and we're off.
Red light comes up and he stops next to me on my left. I look over, and notice that his girl is sitting in the car with him. She's smiling as if she knows her boyfriend is going to take me down and hand me my ***.
Since I haven't truly learned how to launch my car well, I decided this would be a good opportunity to try it out. I recall previous posts on this topic, and 3000-3500 rpm with a quick release of the clutch (ESP off) seems to work pretty well? I decide to try it out. Blipping the throttle between 3000-3500, the green light goes and I drop the clutch quickly. I can hear the guy chirp his tires with his VTEC motor. He actually got the jump on me, but by the end of 1st gear I was about 1/2 a car length ahead. 2nd gear I started walking away, and by the end of 3rd he was close to 6-7 car lengths behind.
Next red light comes up, and he stops next to me. Now his girlfriend is burying her face in the guy's shoulder and shaking her head. I'm laughing because she's totally embarrassed, and he just had a smile on his face knowing that he made a fool of himself. My girlfriend kept telling me to stop looking at them, so I get ready for the next green light. The guy wanted more, because he was revving his engine hard now and determined.
My first launch wasn't that great. 2nd time was a little better. Same outcome though. I can't get the car to just jump forward and keep pulling like everyone says this car can. I'm feeling more of a drop in rpm from 3000...turbo lag...then the car screams through 1st gear. I'm trying to eliminate that "bog" on the initial launch.
Anyway, I didn't want to mess around with the guy anymore. It looked like he still wanted to go, but I made a U-turn at the next light and headed home.
Any good tips for next time?

Do you just hold the RPMS or
do you kinda kick the throttle so it'll rev a little then drop down and kick it up some more? Cause if you catch it on the upswing your turbos will be spooling....

it's not the revs, you're probably jumping off the clutch too quickly
slip it a little the first 1" of pedal travel and then release fully
that should help avoid the bog and give you a smooth leave

Like frank said.. I usually let my clutch out a little slow.. You gotta feel it.. Its not just as
simple as quickly letting off (you get the bog then).. Ive been practicing my launches a lot and Im getting pretty good.. Just gotta let of the clutch slowly.. I also let mine out at 4500ish..
