Default Got to drive a 225TTR last night......impressions.......

My neighbor's A8 was in for repairs and they were given a TT roadster for a loaner. Pretty nice. Well, I was offered to take it for a spin so I said what the hell.

I've learned that the TT is just not my thing. I think it's got a neat shape and it gets plenty of looks. The interior details are cool w/ all the brushed metal and the seating position is good. The drop top was great last night, the weather was perfect. I also like the shorter throws w/ the shifter.

I was pretty disappointed by the performance though. I think I might have expected too much from the 225 motor. I tried a few "spirited" runs to 60 and it just didn't seem to have it. The car has 25K miles on it, so it should be in it's prime. The clutch was VERY light and I actually preferred the S4 tranny. It's amazing just how spoiled we are with the S4's torque. It just seemed to have very little low end grunt. Once it starting moving and I was up to around 4K, it took off nicely but I was still disappointed.

Overall I think it's a nice package, the cowl shake would take me a while to get used to though. Still, it feels pretty tight and is a lot of fun but I'll take my S4 Avant anyday. This TT and my Avant were the same $$, but the Avant offers so much more. Ok, no droptop but I have a sunroof right? I can also take 3-4 friends and their stuff for a fun weekend trip too while surprising many a person w/ the performance of a wagon!

Default I felt the same way when I drove one.

Back when AoA was buying my first S4 back, I was told that I could get any other car I wanted if it was within the same price range. So I thought about the TTR and TT...both 225hp versions.

The S4 was simply the better car for me. The torque, the power, the feel of the car all went to the S4. Plus like you said, you can haul stuff in it and carry 4 people!

Default My wife is considering picking up an ALMS TT (m)

she felt the same way about the engine...it pulls well but you MUST keep the RPMs up above 2K. No stump pulling first gear like the S4.

The TT sounds so good though, especially for a 4-banger. I just kept telling myself that the S4 is more "refined" :-)

We have a silver TT 225R that my wife drives. Everything is perfect, no cowl shake...but I would agree that in stock form it could use some more ponies.

We service all the German cars and I would put the quality of this car up against any of them.

I know that they can be chipped, etc.....but we are leaving this car totally stock.
