Heel toe question? (more)
#11
Well then, if you tried heel-toeing in a car that was setup for it from the beginning, like
say a BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, etc... Then you would understand how much better those car's are setup for this sort of activity. Simply put, the brake pedal and accelerator pedal are too far apart in the stock setup.

You've gotta learn sometime.
I think this is one of the harder cars I've driven to heel toe in. The pedals aren't the problem, it's the damn laggy throttle response. I learned how to heel toe on a '93 M5, and talk about throttle response, WOW!! But now I road race a '93 camaro, and the transition from that to my S4 is night and day. The S4 is a "finess" car. Meaning that it likes soft movements when upshifting or downshifting. Also, I have big feet (you must not) and that makes a world of difference driving these cars. If I were you, I'd get the pedals to learn on, and then with tons of practice, you might get pretty smooth at it.

I'm still learning, but I've had some luck with...
using the ball of my foot on the brake, and my toes on the gas (with my heel angled to the left). I haven't decided if this is optimum, though, as I have to lift my foot completely off the floor...

Question then: given that I've learned with the stock setup, do you think I'd see improvement...
...with aftermarket pedals? I guess the answer must be yes, or all you experienced drivers wouldn't use them, right?
In that case, another question: if I put aftermarket pedals in, should I change to actually using my heel on the accelerator as opposed to the edge/toes which is what I'm doing now with the stock setup? Or, more simply, what foot position do you use, since you said you have average size feet and Momo pedals?

Warren, yes, you can do it, however, the stock setup is not optimum for heel-toe. Simply compare
the distance from the brake and accelerator with that in any BMW, Ferrari or Porsche. It is all about making the pedal configuration as easy as possible.

Yes, you will definitely see an improvement by changing the pedals... As
for foot position. Go with what you can easily repeat. Heel-toe should be down automatically without a thought. If you find you use your "toe" more than your "heel" then that is fine. Good luck and tell me how it goes...
