HELP...I just busted my MAF during a pressure test. Can any of the DC guys help?
I just installed some new clamps on my vacuum leak and everything is as tight as a drum. AWE Pressure tester was working great at 10 psi. They say to go to 15 so I started slowly turning up the pressure. All of a sudden, POP! The pressure tester blew off the Y-pipe. Unfortunately, the pressure tester struck the MAF and well, a picture is worth a thousand words:

Questions. Is this fixable (I'm guessing no)? How much is a new MAF? Does anyone have a spare MAF I could borrow? Are any parts departments open Saturday mornings in the DC area?
This sucks.

You know, the MAF doesn't see any pressure.....
You could use some epoxy & tape, wait for it to dry, sand down the outer edge to have a good seal. Might be worth saving the $$$, we're talking $3 compared to $300+...

Just make sure there is no potential for anything breaking off and entering the turbo.
I would sand the broken edges and mold a new lip with electrical tape wrapped around it to mold it, and JB Weld to form the new lip. Not the 5 minute **** , but the regular JB weld.

Find someone that's bought a new MAF, you just need the housing, you can un-install your sensor and
put it in a used housing, which is just the plastic tube with a screen. As long as you can find someone that hasen't thrown theirs away and you can get your hands on a torx security bit.
The bosch and hitachi housings are different. I have a hitachi housing sitting here not being used that's yours if you want. It looks like yours is hitachi. I'm not in/near D.C. but for the cost of shipping vs. a new housing/sensor from the dealer may be worth waiting a couple days.
Find someone that has one locally or let me know if you want mine.

I have an extra maf housing you can have for the cost of shipping
but it's for a 2000 MAF, so I am not sure it you can remove the hotwire part and exchange it, as our MAF's are different (but the housing may be the same).
Mine is made by bosch, yours is a hitachi (I think I am right on that.
Post a pic of your maf housing inlet where the hotwire module goes through and I'll see if it works.
IN THE MEAN TIME, as long as you have the extra (broken) piece, just go to a good autoparts store and get some JB Weld and glue the piece in. JB Weld can be used to fix engine blocks, and is basically a very high strength two piece mix glue that makes epoxy look like elmers.
Shoot me an e-mail if you want: Mikessp@ameritech.net
