i'm being nice. i could rub in imola's reliability (if i knew how bad it has been?)
Wait, sorry, that's what i *was* doing.
NOW!
it's a true shame that i haven't again found the circumstance to buy another 996.
it's a sports car. the s4 is a sedan. the 996 is much lighter (these are very in-depth insights i'm giving you) and actually has a suspension. interior is small and you can't hold much in the frunk.
the awd in the c4 and tt is up to a 35/65 split between f/r wheels. it doesn't change the overall performance of the car much really, from my driving of both. 100 extra lbs and a bit off your 1/4 times. the car handles great with or without it. on dry roads.... i'd take the rwd. for the people in snow, it is better than rwd.
if you can stand sorting through the order guides, and the best braking you can find outside of a gt2 kit, the 996 is for you. there are a few used around, too... i've been checking them used mostly.
the 3.4L engine doesn't have much hidden power. exhaust, headers, maybe 10hp or something. 2002 model gets a revised (3.6L) engine with 315hp, and some new bumpers and lights i think. major modifications can put 280-300hp to the ground. costs about $20-$25k. best mods to the 996 are suspension, wheels, exhaust for sound, and gt3 seats.
why did i type so much. uhhhhg

Probably can't be made street legal in the US, but at least it's in the country, which is half the battle.

htt p://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=591626412&r=0&t=0
