I know I do, and will have to, because that's my one and only. (vehicle)
oh, beside my pedalling mtn. bike for summer of course.

That's why I bought it!
My 8th Quattro, 2nd S4. Best darned ski cars ever, and all they needed was more power. They finally have it. A good set of snow tires on 16" wheels, and the car's unstoppable. I wish they'd bring back a 2 door hatchback body, though, like the old 90-91 Coupe Q. Don't know what I'd drive if I didn't ski, but it wouldn't be a 4 door sedan. Lexus 400 SC maybe.

Depends on conditions
I've been skiing for over 30 years - all my opinions are centered around the fact that I live to ski.
From all accounts, 17" snow tires don't perform badly, but narrower 16" works even better. All depends on conditions where you drive, and your priorities.
I know that a narrower snow tire doesn't handle as well on dry road; I'll have to slow down a little on windy roads, freeway ramps, etc. Not that big a deal; most of the time traffic makes you behave yourself anyway.
On the other hand, in conditions where you really need the help, a wider tire may lose traction and cause an accident when the narrower tire hangs in. Since I bought the car to commute to the Sierras where we get huge amounts of snow, I want as much security as possible when the weather turns bad. Traffic jams, bozo drivers in other cars, and an intense desire not to end up in a ditch (or worse) color my view.
And, when I get to put on my summer wheels and tires in the Spring, I get to have some fun again.
