HRE " Fish bowl flaw " Anybody know how to fix this probelm ?
I have a set of HRE 441R wheels that I purchased this summer from ASP.
Every time I drive it in the rain the car begins to shake quite badly.
It seems that the design of the rims concave surface holds water inside and causes the wheels to be imbalanced.
Mark has spoken to HRE about this design flaw and it seems that HRE is going to do nothing about this. Their response was everybody knows not drive with those kind of wheels in the rain. Quite a strange response from a high performance wheel company.
I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to cure this ?
TIA
Kevin

Are you talking about the inside of the rim behind the spokes? I'm assuming yes. I have not
driven my car in the rain. I'm curious to see what happens when I do. Or are talking on the outside of the rim between the lip and the face?

yeah ive heard that happen to many people with the reversed lip.
probably not much you can do about it...unless you fill the lip with a thin strand of rubber, or clear silicone or something.. i duno, sucks....of take HREs advice and never drive in the rain

Yes behind the spokes. If you look at the inside of the rim you'll see it's concave.
In which the waters then pools inside and can not
escape as long as the wheel is spinning.

Yeah, I notice that when I wash my car there is a channel area the water sits in.
Haven't experienced and driven the car in a good rain event yet. I would think driving the car slow and doing a couple of back and forths would get that stuff out enough to where it wouldn't pool up. Whenever it rains next I'll let you know what happens.

Damn shame. Spending so much on wheels like that and then that problem. Not the only ones...
I-Forged and other custom wheel companies like the sort face that problem. None of them do anything because its "not their problem".

I've seen a "wiper" installed on wheels like that to help channel the water out of the groove
NIELMAN FOLGEN S4 or something like that has it on his wheels in the B6 S4 forum IIRC.

If I'm tripping, I take a couple towels with me... over 70mph the unbalance is scary..
don't feel bad, iForged is the same way. They should label wheels like this as "no rain" wheels because you truly can't drive high speed in the rain.
