since day one, I have had the "muffled whistle" when accelerating in the 1500-3000 rpm range. This clearly is the turbos. Every 2.7t that I've been around has done this. Similar sound that the big rigs have, just in my car it's very hushed, barely audible to strangers unless I point it out to them. I personally think it's kinda sexy. Like the car is saying "come hither, and we shall play house together"
How much louder is this siren sound Nasa and the others are talking about. I simply don't hear it. I've got about 19k on the clock now, and I don't abuse my car, but I surely don't baby it either. I've always let it warm thoroughly before getting on it, and I let it idle before shutting down when I've been hitting the "go" pedal.
I did notice that when I switched to Mobil 1 at 16k that the turbos "whistle" slightly louder when the engine is cold, and in low temps. But once the car has been running more than say 45 seconds, they sound completely normal.
Any sound bytes I can hear?

I think the point is you'll know if you have it.

There was a video some time back and it was quite obviously not the whistle you are familiar with.
