I'm told, no S4 sedans next MY & that there is a lightweight s4??
Hello, went to the dealership last night and the salesman, who was either extremely knowledgeable or full of BS, told me that audi will not be producing s4 sedans in the next model year, only Avant S4's will be produced, as 80% of all S4s ordered in US are Avants and the same ratio is 90% in Europe. He also showed me his personal vehicle, which was a s4 sedan, from the factory without sound insulation and with aluminum underpinings, giving the car a ~250lb. loss of weight. He said this is available from the factory, though he tried to dissaude my interest in it, probably because he wants to sell me an s4 that is on the lot.

What's that I smell......
He probably got a pre 11/99 built S4 (had the aluminium suspension parts). 2001 S4s are already out and 80-90+% of S4s sold in the U.S. will be sedans. I would steer clear of him.....deal with someone else.

Not sure on the % but.....
I had heard 75% of S4s are Avant in Euroland.
A4 sedan run finishes at the end of this year, we havent been able to order S4's since september and know we are down to base 1.8 and diesels only.
The Avant is due to finish its run early to mid 2001, but this doesnt matter since its a better drive than the sedan.
AoA seam to be stock piling cars until the new A4 (available early 2001 in Euroland) meets US stricter regs.

This salesman states that he is a "global Audi answerman", whatever that is. Audi customer relations refers customers to him for extra attention. FWIW.

Ok, help me out here . . .
2001 S4 sedans are being built when? When can I order one?
the salesman said that if I wanted to spec. and order a s4 sedan, I would have to do so before the end of October, 2000. I understood that this was for a '01 s4 sedan. Seemed strange to me.
He said I had to order by October because Audi was ending the production run at the end of Dec. 2000, and in 2001 they would only be building s4's as Avants.
