Default Inside of the tire wear on S4 with coilovers.

Dealer mentioned that my front tires needed to be replaced and I could probably us an alignment. By looking at the outside of the tire, they had a ton of tread so I figured they couldn't be that bad.

Wrong. Took them off and put the stock rims on yesterday. The inside 1" of the tire was on the mesh/cord, no rubber left. Outside of the tire has about 3/8" of tread left.

Now I have coilovers, and I have the car aligned to take on the track. But seriously, I didn't think the wear would be that f'ed up.

that's because your camber is super negative - perhaps the car is lowered too much?

Default My car is pretty mild in the lowering department. I need to dig out the alignment specs from when I

had the alignment done. I remeber having some negative camber dialed in, but it looks like I have been driving on like the inside side of the tire.

Default S4 = No camber adjustment for the front. Most likely too much Toe-In...

Toe-in will give you the inside tire wear. I have -2- S02s with the inner ring almost gone because of this.

Default Could also be toe-out

excess toe out will cause the same thing.

Default very much agree...most shops & dealers don't know how to set Toe...

you can't take a car from the lot and set alignment and toe and expect great results except when the car is cold and has been sitting for hours.

best way to do alignment is to bring her in hot and have them do it right then. my new engineer (ex-audi, porsche & vw mechanic) insists that to do it right, the car has to have been driven right before alignment.

makes sense, but how many shops or dealers are going to drive the car for 15 minutes before aligning?????

Perhaps your custom alignment drives to the right! Did you say you wanted it straight? ;-)
