Lowbeam Rip-off Story

Lowbeam Rip-off Story
Hello,
I recently joined the wonderful world of Audi with a 2001 S4. So far things have been good except for my recent discovery. My S4 had really dim low beams and I always had to drive with my fog lights on to see. I finally took out the headlight assy to find H7 bulbs installed in the projectors. How creative! I went to Mohegan Lake Audi to discover it would cost 1200 just for bulbs and ballasts. Fortunately from searches through the archives I located Supreme Power Parts.com. I must say for half the cost, I'll be running 50watt ballasts with 5400K bulbs for the cost of 650. The only money I had to give Mohegan Lake Audi was for the headlight leveling motors @ 44 a piece. Well hopefully by the end of the week I'll be back in action. Thanks to SPP and the audiworld archives. Any other similar stories please post. Audiworld, keeping the public informed.

Did you buy a Canadian S4? If so, you need more than bulbs/ballasts..you need a conversion kit.
Or just get new housings. If the H7 fits, then a HID bulb won't. They are not interchangable...

Re: So you're going to be running non-xenons?
NO,
The car was a auto theft recovery. The guy I bought the car from took the insurance money and used a cheap alternate route to fix the car. The guy cut the wiring connector to the ballast and crimped female connectors to plug into the H7 bulb. Mohegan Lake Audi said I would have to buy the headlight assy to fix the wiring issue!!! This is not a Canadian S4. I brought the headlight assys to the parts counter, and we built up a price list of what was missing. The white retainers were still installed due to the lack of leveling motors. If you see this guy, he's name is Lorik, located in Shelton, CT, tell him I said thanks alot for the deal!

If he used non-xenon headlight housings, the SPP kit won't fit. You need to replace....
the entire headlight housing as well. The HID bulbs will not fit into an assembly that accepts a H7 bulb. Unless the guy before you wedged the bulbs in, but I doubt it. The non-HID housings are cheaper than the HID (by a lot). So I would guess he went the cheapest way possible and pocketed the difference. Sorry.
If you need to get new headlights, might as well get e-codes. I believe there is a set of stock S4 housings (HID) in the classifieds. (not mine)
