Default More comparable pulls for log junkies. --->

IMHO, it would be nice if loggers who publish their pulls on AW would adopt a standard format such as WOT 3rd gear from 3,000 to 6,500 RPM versus time, and state the air density for the pull. An Air Density Gauge would make this simple.

Logging identical 3rd gear pulls on the road before and after performance mods, on different days, could produce more comparable results if they considered the atmospheric conditions existing at each pull. While air density has a pronounced effect on engine torque, it also affects wind resistance, and drive line losses vary with speed. So, the resulting acceleration would not be directly proportional to air density. But it sure would be nice to know whether mod results were subject to changes in atmospheric conditions between tests.

The 3" gauge needs no connection, but must be exposed to the ambient air for temperature equalization.<ul><li><a href="http://www.longacreracing.com/catalog/item.asp?id=527&amp;catid=17">Where to get it .</a></li></ul>

Default Don't need the gauge. Just know the temp/alt/humidity/pressure and you can calculate

it. Everyone has these available readily from VAG and weather data.

imo the relative incline of the roads are what is going to make things even worse in comparison across the country. Though not for testing your own parts. Additionally I don't want to see the following logic-&gt;
1)I can't get good 1/4mile times because my clutch slips.
2)Here's my FATS time instead.

;-)

Default I know, but I haven't seen anybody bother to do all that. --->

Besides, weather data doesn't provide local conditions. Also, the gauge needs no VAG tool.

As for incline of the road, I guess we'd have to have bi-directional runs to eliminate the cheaters.

It doesn't slip *in* gear AFAIK.I'm sure we could get speed vs rpm for ya.

Default There are pretty localized datas for that stuff. At least enough to produce

"within" error work. It is definitely something that needs to be included in the FATS data.

Perhaps we need a "FATS" form for people to fill out? Everyone seems to forget to relate the temperature their tests were done at!!

I think its an excellent suggestion you made.

Default But you don't know. That's all I've been pestering Mikey about. Just want to

be certain so you guys have an acceptable "control" to base your further work on.

Default And please explain how Marc E's clutch holds up?

Back to "it"....

I have only witnessed slipping after a hard 1-2 shift. Has other slippage been reported that I'm unaware of? Whenever I have been in the car, I have watched the tach and speedo move in unison.

Default There's actually a block in VAG...

...that records the absolute air pressure (baro pressure sensor). Then record the temp and dewpoint at the time of the run (<A href="http://www.nws.noaa.gov/">From Here</a>). Finally, convert everything to the proper units required for the link below.

I record this info every time I do any sort of boost log.<ul><li><a href="http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_hp_abs.htm">Clicky!</a></li></ul>
