Default My mechanical clutch fan is scraping my bipipe now.

Slight tapping noise...seems to be just one blade. I may only need 1-2 mm of clearance.

Should I try shaving it? Why did this happen?

Default If it didn't before, then something's loose. Hopefully it's not what my dad warned me about.

Apparently the 1.8t's have a problem with the fans going bad and hitting the front of the engine or the radiator, depending on which way they let loose, and tearing up everything. Nearly happened on his Passat wagon. His had an inch of play, either way.
However, this was his secondary fan, but I'm sure it could happen to a primary fan.

Default shave it with a razor knife.

Im not sure how it would happen if the bipipe has been installed for a while and used to fit fine.

Default nah, that's just circumventing the problem. Either the bipipe is loose or growing or

the fan has started to come out.
