Oil leak question/problem [PICS INCLUDED!]
I've been trying to figure out what this leak was and couldnt figure it out. I took a couple pics the best i could with the car jacked up laying on the floor to see if you guys have any ideas.
I have a leak that develops where the transmission bolts to the motor ( RMS maybe ? .
I also have a slight leak on the upper and or lower oil pan( I think). Reason i say i think is because it looks like theres some oil residue above the upper oil pan seal? So is it actually the oil pan(s) leaking? or is it coming from something above it?
The top of the motor is bone dry.
Just has the timing belt etc done. along with the cam seals, valve cover gaskets.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Here are some pics: In the last pic...up on the holes where there are 10mm bolts, there is oil up on the bolt heads. The oil leaking out of the oil pan(s) is slight and i dont think is the leak that is actually dripping on the floor. I think the RMS i the main problem.

As you can see with the trans out the RMS is dry. I have done more upper pan re-seals than I can count. Only replaced 1 RMS, and that was on a 2.8L engine.

What parts are required to re-seal this? I have a leak, and a spare RMS at my disposal...
When I pull my engine, I want to be ready for as much as I can be.
So, i'd like to buy the parts/gaskets I need to re do the upper pan.

I dont think audi used actual gaskets. I believe they used like a silicon from the factory. You can buy it in a tube from audi, or from like a german auto part store.

Try looking in the A6/S6 Form(C5 Platform) for...
"Yikes... I have an oil leak on my 2.7T upper sump seal and the repair procedure is ugly!" When I was looking for information on my oil leak I found this. After removing my transmission I found that the oil was coming from between the RMS flange and the upper oil pan. I think in your case you need to re-seal your upper oil pan.
