Default piggies?

Vast Pref. states:

"These are the original famed "PIGGIE-PIPES". Improve turbo response and eliminate any local heat issues directly behind turbo."

It is no mystery that people blow turbos in their 2.7t's because of heat issues (Coking). Would getting Vast Piggies really reduce local heat issues? I always figured that because gutted dp's allowed easier flow characteristics that our turbos would spool more freely therefore creating more heat?? Sorry if i sound dumb asking this question. I do not know tons about the workings of the 2.7 but am egar to learn.

Default The cats are very, VERY hot. Gutted dp's remove this heat source. And ...

the turbos will spool more freely, but this does not generate more heat. If the pressure is the same, the volume is the same, and the pump is the same...the heat generated by compressing the air should be the same.
What this does do is allow the boost to build a bit more quickly.

Default i've tried...i'm looking for discussion...[edit]

I am trying to learn by having a conversation with enthusiasts like yourself.

what other issues need to be combated for reliable tuned turbo preformance? I have read many topics discussing ceramic coating to ZCing, porting, clipping fins...ect...

I want to have a beast of a B5 without worrying too much about the possibility of blowing a turbo everytime a ride hard.

Do K04's have similar failure rates as K03's?

Default You are overly paranoid. Proper warm up and cool down along with regular maintenance ..

should be enough to rip your car from time to time without worrying. This forum makes everyone ultra paranoid and takes away from the fun of owning the car. IMO, if you drive it like a civilized human being for the majority and have some fun every now and then, the car will be fine for a long time.

Default No, K04 units are much more reliable (more)

Current lore is that the K03 is failure prone even in stock form because it's internal oil passages are too small, and therefore coke up easily.

Having said that, any jackass can promptly kill a turbo if proper cool-down procedures are not adhered to.

Default

"in development", but you won't want to pay for them if/when they become available.
