Default MY appearance......Hmm...........

Well I am young black man driving a +$40K car. Thats one of the reasons I've been bothered....the other is that I look young for my age. I am 26 but probably look like I am 20 or so.

As for my appearance, I dress casual. My shirts are usually tucked in my pants and I have always kept a clean cut appearance and conduct myself in a respectable manner. Thats the way my parents raised me and thats the way I will remain. I don't talk disrespectful to cops....I always say "Yes Sir" or "Yes Officer".....They can always make my life worst if I act a fool.

I know ever time I have been stopped isn't because of some racial prejudice but the following behind me running my tag and asking me stupid questions makes me think otherwise. Once in high school, I was waiting on the side of this McDonalds my fries......A cop pulls up behind me, waits a mintue, then gets out and ask me what I am doing. Then asks me "Who's car is this?"....I said, "Its mine"......He says, "Well, who's it registered to".....I said, "My Father".....He says, "Oh, I thought you weren't born in 43."...and then walks away, gets in his car and drives away....what kind of crap is that to do to a 16 year old kid?

Enough of bad memory lane, I don't running around thinking that the world is against me but it is annoying that I can't live as freely as others do. I work as hard as anyone else and deserve the right to enjoy the fruits of my labor without having to justify them.

You're right though....the problem is bigger than my car.

Default DWB, sorry! Sounds like you're doing everything right :(

I can't help much on the DWB, but have you tried a beard for the age thing? I've alway had the reverse "problem" of looking 4-10yrs older than I am (partly due to starting to grey at 16). My beard comes in looking like Isaac Asimov, so I wouldn't go that route personally , but maybe you'd have better luck.

Absolutely! It never hurts!!!

Yeah, I was trying to point out that I don't know you or what you look like or act like, so I don't know specifics. I had a good friend who insisted that it was his right to go around looking like a wino ... and he was right, but he got hassled by the cops *ALL* the time. I don't think he ever got it, no matter how mant times I tried to tell him

Best I can offer there is to bring my kids up to think like me and wish that someday we can educate the problem into obscurity ... yeah, I know but ya gotta hope!<p>Richard

Default Damn. Yeah, not much you can do about that...

Thankfully I don't have to deal with the DWB issue, but I have enough friends who deal with it to know about it. And I can't imagine being in Texas makes it any better (I assume you are in Texas since you know mk). I have one friend in particular who sounds like your exact situation. Successful guy, working in the software business, but real young and looks younger. He finally put his front license plate on permanently after getting stopped 3 times in 4 months, and getting the full car search every time. Whereas I've been driving 3 years without plates and have never been stopped.

Hopefully someday we actually will have an educated society...
