Please help me compare performance #s of an S4 vs those of a new M3...
Someone posed the question to me regarding what it would take to get similar performance from an S4 to match/exceed that of a new M3. I am not that familiar with a new M3 other than what I read on their site (333HP @7900, 262ft-lbs @4900, 0-60 4.8s, 3415lbs).
Any idea what it does in the 1/4? What would the S4 need to match the 1/4 time? Chip/exhaust? Chip/exhaust/downpipes? More?
Thanks

Go find an M3, and I'll show you all the numbers you need to know :)
sorry I have to be such an M3 hater, but just felt the need to interject here since nobody else has as of yet.
In my opinion, a chipped S4 will be a couple cars behind. However, with downpipes, cats/testpipes, the S4 is waving goodbye to the "bulvarian bi-.plane". This is of course with a damn good driver.
Then again, if I ran an M3 in the "Panzer Wagen", I think I'd hand him his *** on a silver platter.

I saw an E46 in the HPDE and in the pits this weekend.
Was just like any car on a race track...no faster or slower than anything else from Miatas to Porsche turbos...it's all about driver.
Sat there eating a burger and staring at the parked silver one...tried and tried to find ONE attractive line on that car.
Never did...I must be getting old, what people call "beefy" or "macho" looks ugly to me. For all the world, I just couldn't get the idea of a Civic with a body kit out of my head...I tried but it just didn't do a thing for me.
Looks are subjective but its JAF3-series and already looks strangely dated.

maybe it's the Porsche 917 model on my desk but...
swoopy curves over angles and lines anytime anyplace and anyday. I ALWAYS preferred the S4 to the 3-series BMWs...there's no grace whatsoever in BMW coachwork IMHO. The Z8 is the closest thing to a sensuous car that they currently produce.
