Poll: 17s, 18s, or 19s? my ramblings inside...
So, I've been looking at wheels lately, even though I'm not in the market (no $$$) to get a set.
My main question is what should I run? I've listed the pros/cons below. I think from the list below that I would want some SSR Comps in 17x8.5, so I'm basically SOL. I don't track; I'm all about looks (I love the 8.5 width and how they actually fill the fender wells) and maybe them being a little lighter than stock.
Is there a bonafide reason to run 18s or 19s over the 17s? Is the handling that much better? Is grip that much better? Crap, the older quattros ran on 7" rims.
I dunno, but any thoughts/criticisms would be helpful. Opinions are even better. Oh, and if I missed something, let me know.
17s pros: same tires as stock, cheaper tires (relatively), lighter (huge plus)
17s cons: limited selection, doesn't quite fill fender well (in my opinion), width is usually 7.5"
18s pros: more options, wider wheel for traction/looks
18s cons: could bend easier, harder to mount/balance, tires are more expensive
19s pros: even more options, can be very wide and fill wheel well nicely, some are light
19s cons: some look silly (too big/bling), easier to bend, most are heavier

If I did it again, I'd get 17" silver OZ SLs.
Going with bigger wheels is mostly about looks unless you want bigger brakes that will not fit under stock size. However, my 332mm Stoptechs fit under some/many(?) 17s including stock.
Getting bigger wheels to go wider isn't a great reason, can get smaller wheels that are wider and more easily avoid rubbing that way.

it ALL depends on the offset and tire
my bbs RA 18" 8.5 ET 30 and 225/40 would rub a bit w/o rolled fenders (no problem for me - it took me 5 min/side to do).. but 30 is OUT there.
