QUESTION: toe adjustment is done with
inner tie rod ends or outer? i had a mechanic change oil and he saw a nut on the inner tie rod end (near a ball joint) not tightened or seated UP all the way...he said it was a safety issue and tightened it up...i figured...glad he caught it and didn't think much of it....but now...i think...
did he just get the toe completely adjusted out of wack or was he right? the following thread and nick gustas' writeup(that is linked there) got me thinking. that and the fact that for the past week i've had excessive road noise from the tires (or so it seems) about 45-56 mph or so...the oil change was about 1.5 weeks ago, and i've driven nearly 800 miles since then...

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1557229.phtml</a

Referring to the diagram, nut B is loosened, and then the shaft is rotated by turning at A. This screws the shaft in and out, adjusting toe. It's the inner end (note the rack bellows). Then nut B is retightened.
It's possible that when the mechanic retightened the locknut, the toe may have changed.

thanks craig...hmm....maybe i'm referring to the wrong part...
the part rod was vertically oriented...going down to a ball joint looking thing...
got a bentley cd pic for that?

If it was the small vertical bolt I hope he didn't use it to pull the end up all the way.
That's an adjustment bolt for toe curve/bumpsteer. In a lowered car, all the way down is more likely to be correct.
