Default Quiz

Assume two 2.7t engines running side by side on identical dyno stands under identical environmental conditions. The engines are identical in every respect, except that one has K04/RS6 hybrids with OEM hot and cold sides (edited), whereas the other has straight RS6 turbos. The dyno brakes are holding both engines at 7000 rpm, WOT, and the wastegates have been adjusted to equalize MAF for both engines.

Which engine, if any, produces more power?
Why?

Which engine, if any, runs at higher boost?
Why?

Discuss.

the bigger turbos need more fuel. Should be almost identical in speed.

both engines should run the same boost and have the same power

Default same boost and same power. same amount of airflow in two exactly similar engines = same a/f ratio =

same boost = same power. Maybe the boost would be a TINY bit different b/c of the diff turbos. But I would think boost and power would both be very very very close to the same

Just my best guess.

Default Well

Assuming the straight RS6 turbine+compressor+housings combo is more efficient and has less TIP since it is a factory design.

The straight RS6 setup should make more power because there will be less pumping losses and less energy wasted on an inefficient turbo combo.

The K04/RS6 should make (need) more boost, since it has to overcome the greater exhaust restrictions as well as possible compressor side inefficiencies.

Boost would NOT be the same. The setups are equalized for the same MAF.

Default Unkown outcome...

as no one has compressor maps outlining the performance of the RS6 compressor wheel in the smaller RS4 compressor housing.

We can speculate that the full RS6 turbo will be running more efficiently within the given parameters meaning that the IAT's would be lower...theoretically allowing better timing and more power.

I feel the hybrids would also require more manifold pressure and more N75 duty cycle to obtain the same MAF readings due to higher TIP and lower efficiency.
