Radar Seized and Digital Radar Question (Long)
On my way in to work this morning I got pulled over. Cop said I was going 140km in a 100km (about 90mph in a 60mph) and that I had a radar detector that was illegal. I really didn't want a ticket for speeding. I co-operated and gave him my detector. While I was sitting in the car waiting for him to bring my tickets back, I decided I would try to get out the speeding ticket. I got out of my car and walked up to his car and tapped on the passenger side window. (This probably wouldn't go over well in the US) Anyway after talking with him for a few minutes, he decided to only charge me with the radar. Lost the detector and $100 US fine. It was an old BEL 745. It had served me very well over the years.
He explained the digital radar he was using. He asked me whether I knew he was using radar and I said no. I didn't know here was there till he flipped the lights on the unmarked. It was a new type of Radar from Australia that can't be pickedup by older detectors.
I am alittle suspicious because he said that he had pulled my father over for having a radar detector (he had but dad wasn't speeding and pretended not to have one... cop couldn't find it and gave up). My dad drives a silver A6 with Dark tint and I have a silver S4 with Dark Tint. I am a little suspicious that he thought I was my dad.
Anyone know about this "digital radar"? Can Valentine detect it or be detected by it?

The Ohio trooper that pulled me over a month back asked me to walk back over to his car...
...with my license and registration. He didn't even hang around my window long enough to investigate the contents of my car. I guess he was worried about getting run over by traffic.

Everything is much more polite in Canada! Sorry to hear about your detector getting confiscated. I
thought that the penalty for having one would be much more severe than $150 CDN. Was this Ontario?
