Default Reason for sudden change in oil temperature

Just recently, at about 60 deg. ambient temperature with normal driving (RPMs kept under 3000 most of the time), mixed city and highway driving, my oil temperatures have suddenly climbed 25-50 deg. for no apparent reason. They also seem to vary much more than previously, independent of boost. Previously oil temps always ran on the low side, from about 180 deg. average on my normal commute in cooler weather to about 200 deg. in warmer weather. They now run from 225 to as high as to 250. No recent oil change was done and I've always used 0W-30 Mobil 1 in the past and put in 0W-40 Mobil 1 about 2 months ago. Any suggestions as to what can cause this would be appreciated. The car is a 2000 6 speed with about 32K miles. Thanks for any help!

Default I've seen the oil condition sensors go bad, causing symptoms similar......

to what you're describing. Few & far between, and the temp changes are usually much more extreme. They're not too spendy, and easy to change during an oil change. It's that thing bolted in from the bottom of the oil pan, with a 3 wire connector. Good luck!

Default Get someone with a VAG-COM to measure the airflow through your MAF.

Could be that you MAF is history and it's causing your engine to run lean and create higher engine temps (hence higher oil temps). Trust me, happened to a friend of mine - no DTC's - his K03's are now history

Gotta be worth checking, better to be on the safe side.

Default I am pretty sure the oil temp. sensor gone bad... replace a new one. Located at the

bottom of the oil pan. It's a multi function sensor (oil level sensor & oil temp sensor). A lot of dealer can not find the oil temp. sensor due to the wrong S4 workshop manual info. Hope this might help....
