I thought the '01 S4 was coming through with other than the Potenzas - I've seen some with Pirelli's, but most still seem to have the same tires as the '00's. Can you request the Pirellis when ordering the car, or is it really the luck of the draw?

Just picked up my '01 on Tues. Came with the 040's. Luckily I planned ahead and had 18" BBS RK's with michelin pilot's ready to go and had the dealer put snow's on the original wheels at no charge.

why does everyone hate the Potenzas?

Most are upset about the frequent occurence of bubbles in the sidewall. I had one bubble and one tire that went "out of round" at 5,000 miles.

At least one person on the forum has received a letter from NHTSA about a the RE040. Don't remember the exact spin of the letter... investigation maybe... dunno.<p>donp - '00 S4 Silver/Silver
