Hi,
This is controlled by the speed of throttle input, depth of throttle travel, and the miles the car has on the odo.
The late '99 A6 with the skip shift feature, gradually sees a reduction in the auto skip function as miles are put on the car.
April
PS are THE Hemant ?

Salesman originally said that 2nd to 1st was the only shift the car would do for you
but then when driving at low to modest throttle (MY 2000 S4 tip), the car would shift from first to second at around 2000 rpm. when i came to a light a put the accellerator to the floor, it stayed in first until about 6600 rpm (just below redline) where it upshifted to 2nd on its own.
Is this what is known as a"auto skip function"?
PS Not know who THE Hemant is, but to me I am THE Hemant because I don't know many others.

That's correct. It will shift to 2nd before you know it unless you boot it.
That is the only upshift that the Tip will do for you. It will, of course, also downshift to 1st when you stop.
