Son's O'B*tches!!! I'm driving to work today and I hear what I think is the low fuel beep...
but when I look at the dash the "min *oil lamp*" display is on. I had my oil changed about a month ago and I've put on 1900 miles. I pull over I let the car sit for a while and take the dipstick out. I can't make out anything on the dipstick. Not good. Fortunately I have 1 2/3 quarts of oil in the trunk. I put the 2/3 bottle in and check the dipstick again. Again I can't make anything out. I put the next quart in and check again. I still can't make anything out on the dipstick. So I get back in the car... start it up and no light. I drive another few miles to Rector motors and they get someone out immediately to look at the car. Pretty good considering they had a line up of 6 cars. By the time the car settled and the technician checked the oil levels it was now at full.
Has anyone burned ~1 2/3qts oil in <2000 miles on here? I had them put in 0-30w Mobil 1 at the 5K service. Now I'm paranoid.
Oh and a side note. I've not had any oil spots on the floor of my garage and no smoke from the exhaust so I'm a bit mystified.

Are you burning oil, or did the tech just underfill at your last service
Never underestimate the (in)competence of the local dealership....just keep checking from now on to see what your oil consumption is.

At 3,000 or so mile's my car did the same, I put two quart's in it and the oil level has been fine.
Again also no signs of oil on the ground or from the exhaust.

Listen to Sharon. I check my oil level every couple of weeks.
Usually when I'm cleaning under the hood after washing the car. Better safe then sorry. I think you'll be okay though. I mean, if something got badly damage that easy, then we're all in serious trouble with this car.

Best to check your oil often
The A4 I traded-in went through a quart every 1000-1500 miles - so I just got in the habit of checking the oil everytime I get gas. Good excuse to raise the hood, let out some heat, and enjoy the view.

6925miles. I'll be checking the oil every few days now.
I bought 9 quarts of oil. After the oil change I had 2 2/3 or 2 1/2 which means they put in 6 1/3 or 6 1/2.
What a pain in the a$$
