Default Stuff about dynos....

DO NOT COMPARE NUMBERS FOM DIFFERENT KINDS OF DYNOS!!

okay done

Think about it... you've got numbers from a dyno that is bolted directly onto the hubs of the wheels and creates a variable hydraulic load VS numbers from a dyno the car "drives" on with its "lossy" tires on bigass rollers whose weight is the load VS numbers from a dyno....

be smart... don't start

Agreed, However you'd think they should be in the ballpark if they're all SAE corrected? I guess not

Default the only "reliable" dyno

is an engine stand or "test cell" dyno
anything else is a guesstimate

SAE correction has nothing to do with different TYPES of dynos, just different ambient conditions

Default Plus, the corrections are different on turbo vs NA cars...

Since turbo cars don't *see* ambient conditions. ICs and the turbos make it impossible to estimate the temperatures the engine is actually seeing from externally measured temperatures.

Default What a dyno is useful for (as Frank mentioned) is...

comparing your own car on the same dyno to see if you're getting a gain.

There are just as many variables on a dyno where the wheels are in contact with the rollers as in the real world and though you don't have wind resistance, you constantly battle wheelspin and heatsoak. There is no such thing as "two identical cars" so one mod might be making up for a deficiency in one car and only show moderate increases where the same mod in another (good) car might show huge increases...then there's the tires etc...it's just not a science unless you put the engine on a stand.

I have dyno plots from my tip ECU (in a 6-speed) AND I have numerous dragslips...I know that car was making 320hp because at the end of the day I couldn't have run the trap speeds I did without it. I satisfied my own curiosity but at enormous expense.

The Porsche went to a dragstrip once but that was it and I don't need no dyno time...it's fast enough to get me in big trouble but too slow to be a drag racer (though plenty fast for the trucks and SUVs and Hyundais that seem to always wanna race) hehehehe.
