stupid question, can I take out rear drive shaft from trany to rear differential

and drive around with just front wheel connect to the tranny ?.. I need to get my drive shaft out for services

You'd need a lock off tool on the back of the trans. Audi make one for "testing purposes"....

But it's like $2K....
...If you can find one!

Im my experience with other AWD cars it is possible to get around however it is really bad for the

tranny and will make a ton of noise. Not sure if the S4 is the same.

It's possible to make one out of an old driveshaft and some metal braces...

But I wouldn't do it for fun!

if the shaft is not balance correctly, you will get alot of low thumping sound.
