Third gear question...

What do you mean by "misalignment of synchros?"
do you mean that the gear lever resists for a moment while shifting into gear? That happens on every shift that I don't synchronize myself, regardless of gear. It's normal and more noticeable in lower gears.
If you mean that you're getting grinding, then no, that's not normal (and no, I don't have it).

OK, more details...
Doesn't happen every time, but it's a subtle crunch of a sort. Can't confirm it doesn't happen under hard accel. since I don't do that all the time. It's not really nasty, but it just doesn't seem right. Sometimes I wonder if it's the linkage and sometimes I just think it's the syncros. We'll see. Depends on how good the service dept. is. If they try two shifts, don't pay attention and declare NPF I wouldn't be surprised. Problem is I have a 4 hour roundtrip to the dealer so they better take it seriously. -Pete

Re: Not going into third, but 1st and reverse (nt)...PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE A GEAR SHIFTING PROBLEM
i had a slight misalignment too from 1st to second gear, kinda had to push it into gear on occasion, and also it was hard to get into reverse...well my wife took the car to go shopping and she downshifted coming to a red light and the 1-2 gears are all locked up,,now it has to be forced to get it into 1-2 gear it feels like the gate is misaligned and not the synchros cause im not getting any grinding...i called to get service at 2 local dealerships and the earliest they could see me is next monday...they said it was ok to drive but it seems that the more i drive the worse it gets..so im parking it till next week...this really sucks as its only 1 month old and it has only 1800 miles on it...i have a favor if anyone else has any gear related problems email me privately, let me know what they are your name and email address, so i can let the dealer know this is not an isolated problem... thanks alot!!!
