Default Valley Pan Gasket Replacement (help!)

I'm replacing the valley pan gasket. I have everything apart, but I can't remove the pan cover because the after-run pump mounting bracket is in the way.

Unless someone can tell me how that valley pan cover can be removed without removing the coolant hose structure, that bracket is going to be cut off with a dremel(in which case I'll relocate the after-run pump to the firewall).

Ideas, knowledge, tricks of the trade?

Default i cut the bracket just enough to get it out. i have been able to keep the afterun pump where it is

without removing the pump or lines. i have a extra harline that i will put back next time i have the engine out. to do it correctly the hardline has to come off which you have to take the driver side cam cover off which is behind the timing belt.

sorry i did not take a picture of my bracket

this is why i was in there

Default Whoa! I'll be sure and check for a cover hole when I get it out.

That has to be a quality control issue with the casting of that cover...unless an Audi rat chewed through it.

Hmmm....come to think of it, maybe that's why my S4 keeps breaking...I have rats in my engine bay!

Did you cut it at an angle leaving at least three of the mounting bracket holes...that may work with a few zip-ties to keep it in place; then heat shield the entire thing.

Default Ha...figured it out! Just bend the mounting bracket at the ripple.

I feel like a butt headed monkey!

It was sooooo easy...just use pliers to bend the bracket upward and slide the crankcase breather pan cover out from underneath. If you look closely at the after-run pump mounting bracket, it has a ripple in the design. It bends at that point nicely.

Simply replace the valley pan gasket and bend the bracket back into place.
