Valve gasket seals.

Valve gasket seals.
I took my car to an Audi mechanic after noticing smoke coming from my car. Smoke only occurs for the first 10-15 minutes or so. He says its the valve gasket seals leaking. Does $300 for labor sound good? When doing this repair...what else should I fix?

uhmmm
there are valve covers gaskets, cam seals and tensioner gasket.
so witch one?
300 for cam seals is not bad since tb has to come out.
300 for valve covers is rape.
300 for tentioner gaskets is also rape
300 for valve covers and tensioner gasket is ok.

hey im doing just the driver side gasket and tensioner seal, 4 that side I dont need that

Mechanic said the tensioner compressor is not needed for changing tensioner gasket on driver side--
is that right? said its up front on the driver side not it in the back..
and you dont need that tnesioner compressor tool for the driver side tensioner gasket replacemetn
was going to do myself..but maybe not Im getting conflicting info here

uhmm, it really depends on a lot of stuff
the compressor is used to make your job easier. Also depends on how far you are on tdc, so if the tensioner is compressed or not.
Not necessary but suggested.
You can remove the gasket without the tensioner compressor but it will be hard and you might not do as good as a job as you can. And it might leak afterwards.
Go to an audi/vw dealer talk to a mechanic if you can have the tool, they always have extra ones. Its a cheap plastic tool.
Give him some extra money on the side.
conclusion, its possible but i would used it.
