Default Weird Question....is it illegal to drive in the US with no headlights?

Please don't ask why I'm asking this....

I'm just wondering if it's illegal to be missing the headlamps and still driving the car (specifically in Michigan). If someone has their headlights stolen, does the make the car undriveable?

Thanks
Aman

Default Probably illegal at night, possibly illegal in the rain, probably legal in the daytime.

I don't know Michigan's law, but common sense would seem to govern here.

Even if it were illegal to drive w/o headlights in the daytime, any cop that would ticket you, after you explained that your headlights were just stolen and you were waiting for replacement parts, would be a MAJOR a-hole, and you'd probably get the ticket thrown out in court.

Default Technically, yes it would be.

If you're driving around during the day, and get pulled over, I'm sure a copy of the police report, or a simple explanation would generate some level of understanding.

If you're driving around at night with no headlights...I doubt you'd get a break, unless the theft *just* happened, and you're limping the car home.

Default Should be OK during the day, unless you are required

to have your headlights on on the highways. Technically we are required to have them on on road trips here, but haven't seen anyone pulled over for it. Agreeing with the others here, technically you woudl be illegal, but during the day, no rain, shoudl be OK. depending on if the Cop got his KK's that morning :P
