Default what areas should be covered with a plastic bag before cleaning the engine bay? The battery and

what else?

Plus, some people say let the car sit for a while before starting. Others say start it immediately to start the drying process. What's the consensus?

TIA.

Default What I do is leave the battery cover tray on. Once you have hosed things off get all the water out

with lots of compressed air. This only really works if you have a big air compressor. In a pinch a leaf blower will do.

Default In the S4, not much, just don't use a high pressure stream. Clean it when it's warm, start it

immediately after (or blow it off with a leaf blower first and then start it) to help with the drying process.

Don't bother covering anything. Just spray it with simple green and rinse.

Default Well my INternet access went out just after I posted this. I went ahead and had a warm engine. I

sprayed the P21S Total Auto Wash stuff all over and let it sit for a minute. Then I used a light water spray and sprayed everything. I really didn't need to agitate much at all. That stuff works great!!

After everything was dry, I applied some One Grand Exterior Rubber & Vinyl Treatment and everything looks brand new. I'll take a picture later.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Easy mod that works miracles.

Default Agreed. That's what I've done. I just make sure the engine is cold before doing it...

(let it sit in the driveway overnight) and leave it to dry for several hours after washing.

Default My engine was warm (I could touch everything with my hand) and I started the engine about 20 minutes

after finishing it. I didn't have any problems.

YMMV........

Glad to hear it. I'm probably overcautious when I do it.
