At what HP is it a good idea....
to upgrade Rods on this engine. I'm coming from the I5 turbos and we would upgrade them at 400hp to be safe. Most of the stage 3 kits I see are in the mid to upper 400chp but I don't see anything about internals being upgraded. Any week links if I want to go 500-600HP?

probably a good idea over 600 or so.. afiak there havent really been any power induced failures
yet though - just a few scattered blocks due to poor tooning. keep in mind that at those power levels, any detonation at all is likely to break something.
our rods are powdered steel fwiw. not horrible, but i wouldnt trust them under too much of a load. if you're looking for suggestions on upgraded rods, theres a post on the 2.7T forum where i shared some of the options.

Great, thanks for the info...
The car I am looking at buying has K04's in it but IMO the K04's are tiny and I would rather have a little more lag and a lot more power since I'm used to driving a big turbo'd es2 and am very used to Laaaag.

Well, since I'm new to the 2.7tt...
engine I'm not exactly sure but custom headers and big turbos will be on the first page then probably stand alone engine management and a few other goodies. Coming from the URS cars I went through the RS2 upgrade path (similar to what you guys are doing with the RS4 stuff) and when I realized how stought the 5 cylinder engine was I went custom everything and the power levels basically became what you could afford or who you knew. There are lots of 5 cylinder 3b and AAN's making 500-600hp so I don't see why it should be a problem on this engine. I don't plan to do this all at once obviously but I like to pick away at these things as a hobby over several years.

its not a problem - call Mark@ASP if you want to get started on an upgrade path
i'd stay away from the standard chip/downpipe/etc path though, since it'll all have to come off if you go with garretts down the road.

yea, I made that mistake with my past cars...
always moving to fast and replacing brand new parts for bigger ones because I didn't look far enough down the road. The car I am looking at buying already has the stage 3 APR setup so I might just drive it till I break something then let it begin.
